in the left menu.
September 18, 2021:
The new Python version of the program has been released for all platforms. See more at: Field IIPro. This versions and new versions of the Pro program now uses a more efficient memory management scheme for each thread, which also has improved performance.
April 7, 2021:
This year Field II celebrates its 25 year of service to the ultrasound community. The initial C version
was developed in 1991-92 at Duke University on my sabbatical, which was the foundation for Field II developed
in 1995-1996 for general use. The program has been available since then on the Web for free download.
We celebrate this by introducing new version for the Web for Matlab 2019-2021, where
version 3.30 of Field II for windows, Mac and Linux has been released for Matlab 2019-2021.
You can find the code at: Download/For Matlab 2021
in the left menu.
An optimized Field IIPro version for Windows, with a more efficient allocation of memory, has also been released for Matlab 2021.
And finally a Field IIPro version has been written for Python 3.8. It is currently under validation, but runs
fast with multiple cores with all the functionality, and the same calling functions as for the Matlab version. It will
be available for purchase in April, 2021.
May 12, 2014: A new version 3.24 of Field II for windows has been released for Matlab 8.10.
This mex file is compiled using the GNU gcc compiler and should hopefully fix
the problem with Field II under windows. You
can find the code at: Download/For Matlab 8.20
in the left menu.
May 12, 2014: A new version 3.24 of Field II has been
released for Matlab 8.20.
The version fixes a problem for short spatial impulse responses
using rectangles. Try it out, and report problems to me.
May 5, 2014: The Field IIpro parallel version has now
been released for use. It is found in versions for
both Matlab and Octave and it also exist in a C library version
usable for buidling stand-alone executables. More information about
the program can be found at: Field IIpro
in the left menu.
October 27, 2013: Field II can be slow for certain field points, when
using bounding lines and triangles. This is due to the method employed for
integrating the response. The option set_field('fast_integration',1)
solves this problem, with a very slight reduction in accuracy. I have therefore
chosen to make this option the default method. It can be disabled by writing
set_field('fast_integration',0). Field II version 3.22 has therefore been compiled
for version 8.10 of Matlab for Windows, Mac and Linux. Please download if from
Matlab 8.10, try it
out, and report problems to me.
Note also that for the Windows 64 bits version you have to have
the Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 run-time libraries for this version to work.
This you can either get by installing the compiler and using mex -setup
or download the Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 run-time libraries from the link:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30679
October 19, 2013: An internal error in the program when
using triangles has been fixed in Field II version 3.21 compiled
for version 8.10 of Matlab for Windows, Mac and Linux. Please download if from
Matlab 8.10, try it
out, and report problems to me.
September 30, 2013:You can now follow Field II on LinkedIn and
post comments and discussions. You can freely
join the group named:
Field II Ultrasound Simulation Program, where news about
new version of Field II will be posted.
September 25, 2013: Field II has now been compiled
for version 8.10 of Matlab for Windows, Mac and Linux. Please download if from
Matlab 8.10, try it
out, and report problems to me. Work is also underway for a faster
version of Field II. More on this in October.
June 11, 2012: A version new example of more efficient calculation
of a flow signal for multi-cpu simulation has been added. It can
be found under flow examples here.
April 30, 2012: This is the new web-site for Field II. The University is closing
the Linux server hosting the Field II web-site. I have therefore decided to host my
own site at field-ii.dk, which will remain open for a
s long as there is any interest in
Field II. I hope to add new, updated versions soon.
June 9, 2011: A version for the Mac (64 bits, Intel) have been made and put on the web.
It can be found under Download.
May 6, 2011: The distribution files have been updated May 6, 2011. They now include
the users guide and a small bug fix has been made for m-file xdc_apodization.
November 19, 2010: The memory problem under Matlab has now been fixed and
a new version for Matlab 7.10 has been put on the web under Download.
Please use this version from now on.
June 30, 2009: There is problems with Matlab version 7.8 and the 7.6 code. A new 64 bits
version for Linux and Matlab 7.8 has been made, and can be found at:
?downloading_7_8.html . More versions will be added
once they are compiled.
January 22, 2008: Version 3.16 of the Field II program
for has been put on the web for the Intel Mac.
The version runs under Matlab version 7.5.
The web-site for Field II is now placed at:
http://server.oersted.dtu.dk/personal/jaj/field/
due to our 5-year cycle of changing Department name.
December 17, 2007: Version 3.16 of the Field II program
for has been put on the web in a 64 bits version for both Windows and
Linux. The version runs under version 7.5 in Windows and 7.4 in Linux.
August 10, 2007: Version 3.15 of the Field II program
for has been put on the web. The version fixes print-out under
the Java front-end and an error in the splash screen. Program
is also converted to Matlab 7 and automatic release of memory
has been added.
A new web-site for Field II has been introduced. It is now
placed at: http://server.oersted.dtu.dk/personal/jaj/field/.
http://server.oersted.dtu.dk/personal/jaj/field/
The examples on the web site have been updated and some
errors fixed.
September 12, 2003: Version 3.00 of the Field II program
for Mac OS X has been put on the web. The version can be found
under the distribution as a compressed tar file or as a mex file
under the m-files directory.
April 19, 2002: Version 3.00 of the Field II program
has been released today. The program includes a number of
improvements and enhancements, along with specific versions
for Matlab 6 under windows and Linux. The new features are:
- The internal memory managnement in the program is now done
through Matlab and the internal calling in the program is
now done through the Matlab version 5 and 6 interface specification.
The program can, therefore, only be used with Matlab 5 and 6. Older
versions of the program can still be found on the
web-page: downloading_17_8_2001.html.
This should hopefully solve some problems with crashes
under Windows.
- The precision of the calculation with rectangles has been increased. The
program now uses half sampling intervals alignment in the calculation to
increase accuracy.
- A problem with double curved transducer surfaces have been solved
when using rectangular elements. This influences the transducer models
xdc_concave and convex elevation focused arrays.
- The command field_info has been made, which shows the state of all
parameters in the program.
- A few more options has been added to the routine set_field.
- Several problems with calculating fields from boundary line elements
has been fixed. Problems for triangular elements have also been fixed.
August 21, 2001: A new web-site for the Field II programs
has been made. It contains a new interface, which should make
it quicker to navigate and find information. The new web-site
can be found at:
http://www.es.oersted.dtu.dk/staff/jaj/field/
The old web-site, that no longer be maintained, can be found at:
http://www.es.oersted.dtu.dk/staff/jaj/old_field/
A new fully hypelinked user guide has been made for version 2.86 of
the program. It can be found at:
information/users_guide.pdf
Several features have been added to version 2.86 (August 17, 2001)
of the program:
- The writing of time left for the calculation no longer scrolls,
so that only one line is displayed. The time is now also displayed
in a more detailed time format.
- A procedure for making full synthetic aperture imaging has been
added to the program (calc_scat_all). It calculates the signal for
all receiving elements, for each of the elements in the transmitting
aperture.
